Program Leaders

These modules introduce participants to the requirements and best practice for program design of teacher induction and mentoring.

They address the Illinois Standards of Quality and Effectiveness for Beginning Teacher Induction Programs and use the Illinois Program Continuum to guide differentiation for all Illinois school districts.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Utilize the Illinois Induction Standards, Continuum, and the Illinois Induction Guide as tools to analyze and develop/refine their induction program
  • Create a mission statement for their teacher induction program that drives program goals and design
  • Draft a plan to incorporate Illinois Induction Standards 1, 2, and 9 in your program
  • Develop a program evaluation plan to measure teacher induction program effectiveness for purposes of accountability and continuous improvement planning.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Allocate resources and budget effectively given program mission and design including coordination with site administrators
  • Align existing professional development to teacher induction program goal
  • Create/adapt a mentor competency model and recruitment/selection plan to identify and select mentors based on performance
  • Create a learning plan for mentors including development of learning communities and identify current obstacles and gaps

Module 3: Training Site Leaders to Maintain and Foster a Quality Program

By the end of this session, participants will :

  • Enhance their understanding of a repertoire of strategies for assisting administrators in strengthening their involvement in program development and implementation aligned to Illinois Induction Standard Four
  • Create a personal action plan for outlining next steps in facilitating site administrators’ involvement in maintaining and fostering a quality program
  • Utilize materials from this presentation to develop a two hour professional development session on “The Role of Site Administrators in Fostering and Maintaining a Quality Induction/Mentoring Program”, for an administrative team meeting including all district administrators.
