2015 Spring Sessions

Regional Meetings in Four Locations

Please plan to join this engaging learning around mentoring and induction topics designed exclusively for the Race To The Top School districts. These sessions are intended for anyone from your program interested in extending their knowledge and supporting the overall development of the program.

These sessions are open to: program leaders, mentors, teacher-leaders, administrators or representatives of the mentoring program for your district.

All sessions are free of charge. Sign-up early!

Register by emailing your regional facilitator (listed at the bottom of this post)

Districts will receive:

  • Opportunities to collaborate with other RTT districts
  • Individual support from induction and mentoring facilitators
  • Materials and support documents that provide immediate access to high quality district program development
  • Breakfast and light lunch

13 RTT districts attended the INTC Induction and Mentoring Conference in Springfield in February, where a special Induction and Mentoring Networking Meeting for those districts was held. Participants shared positive feedback and found the time to be extremely beneficial. We encourage you to take advantage of this special opportunity for RTT districts only!

 See Regional Dates below 9:00-12:00     Session #1:   Planning Forward: Supporting High Quality Induction Through an Interview and Selection ProcessIn this network, program leaders, mentors and/or district leaders will be introduced to a protocol and a rubric to support the development of a mentor recruitment and interview process.   This protocol will allow districts to focus on hiring the best-qualified mentors in the district to support new teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to identify the level of implementation of the district’s mentoring program using the Illinois Induction Program Continuum and set goals based on the Induction Program Standards.Standards Addressed: Standard 2 Program Goals and Design, Standard 5 Mentor Selection and Assignment 
12:00-4:00(optional) Technical Assistance SupportsIn these technical assistance sessions, program leads, mentors and district leaders can receive one on one support to guide the development of the mentoring program. Technical Assistance can also support development of components within the mentoring program. Teams are welcome to use this TA time to meet and develop their district program with the assistance of a facilitator.
 See Regional Dates below 9:00-12:00    Session #2 Planning Forward: Creating a Scope and Sequence and Mentor Professional Development Opportunities  Teacher leaders and mentors have an overflowing demand for their time and energy.  It is critical that they are supported with a roadmap for effective mentoring practices that will support teacher growth and development. Through this session, participants will learn strategies for how mentors create opportunities for new teachers by focusing on three fundamentals of a systems-based approach: building relationships, mentor language, and observation/feedback.  In addition, participants will analyze and discuss scope and sequence documents and mentor professional development topics.  Standards Addressed: Standard 2 Program Goals and Design, Standard 6 Mentor Professional Development, Standard 8 Formative Assessment

 ONLINEAll Regions Thursday June 4th, 201510:00-11:30 Session # 3 Planning Forward: Designing New Teacher Professional Development Teacher leaders and mentors must have the skills and tools to be a value add to the school and most importantly, new teachers.   How do we create the on-going professional development that new teachers need to do their work well?   This session focuses on how programs can bring teachers together to focus on the fundamental skills of new teacher development. Participants will leave the session with scope and sequences for new teacher monthly meetings and sample professional development facilitator guides and other professional development materials. Standards Addressed: Standard 2 Program Goals and Design, Standard 7 Beginning Teacher Practice
